i second the recommendation for pvr-500's.  we have two of them in a
backend with a sempron cpu in it and they record basically on all 4
tuners constantly.  no problem, no issues and the setup is rock solid
running pretty recent svn.

there is some question about the quality of the tuners on recent
pvr-500's so if you go that route you might want to take that into
account.
