I use ubuntu too, I had to do an...
"apt-get install libxml-sax-perl libxml-dumper-perl libimage-size-perl"

...and also make the script executable.  I think the script has now
been made executable in SVN, so you should be able to upgrade, but you
do need the pre-req packages.
