Ok first question, are you sure it's a Nova-T 500? I ask because the
Nova-T and Nova-T 500's are very different cards, on my amd64 Fiesty
install the only incling of the T-500 is a some new VIA USB controllers:

02:07.0 USB Controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT82xxxxx UHCI USB 1.1
Controller (rev 61)
02:07.1 USB Controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT82xxxxx UHCI USB 1.1
Controller (rev 61)
02:07.2 USB Controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. USB 2.0 (rev 63)

and when you lsusb you see:
Bus 004 Device 002: ID 2040:9950 Hauppauge

I'm guessing you've got a Nova-T and have been following a guide for the
500, which are different chipsets. Dunno if he posts here but try
looking here http://parker1.co.uk/mythtv_novafw.php for a quickie guide
to a regular Nova on Ubuntu (seems a hell of a lot easier than kick
starting the 500, so consider yourself lucky :) ).
