I've been fooling around with an old Handspring Visor and a
"springboard module" from Pacific Neo-Tek.  The combination will let
you "draw" whatever remote suits your needs, and it can learn from
whatever source you have.

You could also go looking for a cheap Phillips Pronto series remote
and do more or less the same thing.

Neither of these have lots of hard buttons, but they do have more than
enough soft ones.
