I had to rush out and buy a motherboard quick after one died. Found a
cheap MSI Ne02 board with a socket 754 Sempron 3000, decided to get a
matching ATI graphics board (X300 PCIe) to match. This was before I ever
heard of Myth.

I am now using this as a workstation, in fact, the one I'm writing this
from. I have installed myth on it, backend and frontend, for various
testing purposes. Never looked at xorg.conf, never had to tweak
anything. Just Works. Talks to my LCD TV (vga input), gets everything
right. Of course, being in the UK I haven't done anything stressful like
attempting HD on it. Still, never had a problem with it.

I suppose, as they say, YMMV.

Just my 0.02 GPB.
