I believe it gets it from
[mythtv at mythtv ~]$ cat /proc/acpi/thermal_zone/THRM/temperature
temperature:             40 C

Mine always says 40, as well. I'm not sure why. AMD64? I have all  
kinds of weird things like that since I've moved to AMD 64.
