[mythtv-users] Powerstrip modeline not working

I've managed to figure out how to start X with a higher log level and
this has shed some light on the problem. Looks like I can't get higher
than 800x600 because of HorizSync out of range issues - from the log:

And, yes, my xorg.conf contains these lines:
    HorizSync       31.5 - 37.9
    VertRefresh     50.0 - 70.0

But they got put there as a default by whatever created xorg.conf in
the 1st place. I'm not sure what to do now. Should I just change the
Horizsync range - or is this dangerous?
