First, read the DVD box... if it says it has 5.1 then when you check the 
AC3 box in MythDVD it will have the 5.1 stream... I have ripped my 
entire 200+ collection (minus the stack of 5 - 10 that doesn't want to 
be ripped) and each and every rip with AC3 has the stream... if you 
"check" it, it's there. You can search the users archive for a couple of 
long posts I have on the 5.1 stuff and I also had a couple of threads on 
the Alsa user list too... neither thread was "hot" per se, but they may 
contain some good testing information for you.
