The idea is to move it all over to OpenGL for better eye-candy and no  
CPU cycles since you'll be able to use the hardware OpenGL on your  
probably not higher-priced hardware. The menus are just the first  
step as more of a proof of concept. Eventually when all of the UI  
uses OpenGL, it will all make more sense. Plus from what I understand  
(I could certainly be misunderstanding) you'll be able to use color  
OSD with xvmc acceleration once the OSD moves over to OpenGL which  
will be nice.
