[mythtv-users] No audio with saa7134 card

I have a Mercury TV card, supported by the saa7134 driver.  I decided it
would be nice to set up the machine it's in as a slave backend.  I'm
able to watch video from the card on the main frontend/backend machine,
but I get no audio.  The card is connected with a loopback cable to the
line input on the slave backend's on-board soundcard.  Here's what I've
tried so far:

- Running tvtime, muting "line out" in the mixer, and running 'aplay
/dev/dsp' gives me audio.
- Unmuting "line out" in the mixer when mythtv is playing video from the
card does *not* give me audio.

It almost seems like audio output from the card is getting disabled
somehow, but I'm not sure where to go from here.  Any suggestions?

OS is OpenSUSE 10.2
kernel is 2.6.18.2-34-default
