Umm... if I'm reading this right - your KDE apps are compiled against  
the earlier kdelibs and you haven't done anything else - then it's a  
very EASY problem to resolve under Gentoo.

True enough it may take some time to re-emerge half the world, but  
leaving the computer running overnight shouldn't trouble the user in  
the same same way as an I've-done-this-to-fix-it-and-I-don't- 
understand-why-it-still-doesn't-work problem.
