You should be getting much faster rates.  It really depends on back
nuvexport backend you're using (transcode, ffmpeg, mencoder), and what
options you have selected to be encoded.

Check your nuvexportrc for lots of options.

xvid will be a little slower than divx.  When I export with ffmpeg and avoid
doing resolution scaling, deinterlacing, cropping, etc, it should go pretty
fast.
