Note that getting 5.1 sound working can be frustrating, since there are quirky 
hardware-specific mixer and perhaps even MythTV settings needed.

This is my suspicion also but I can't seem to find anyone that can help. 
I got on the Alsa-User list in hopes of someone being able to help me 
with this kind of thing but all I got was a URL to a page 
(http://alsa.opensrc.org/Ice1724) that I had been staring at for the 
past 2 days... nothing I tried on that page worked either... same 
result... no sound with pass through enabled.
