[mythtv-users] OT: Can't edit Gnome menus

Sorry to ask this here, but I've asked in all the relevant Ubuntu places
and no one can help me.

The problem is that I can't edit my Gnome menus. Alacarte (is that what
the apps called?) looks like it's doing what is should, but then has no
effect what so ever. I know that I'm not just doing things completely
wrong as I have made changes before, but it's not worked for a long time
now.

One reply I had suggested that I don't have the correct permissions on
the files that Alacarte is trying to change. That made sense to me, but
I don't know which files to check the permissions of! Can anyone here
point me in the right direction?
