I've gotten these errors as well. I get them on HD recordings via 
firewire. It has only caused a segfault once on an episode of  Conan O 
Brian. Most of the time it just skips several seconds of playback. (bad 
guy pointing gun at good guy.... skip.... bad guy on the ground dieing, 
damn it! what just happened).

Rich's news is disturbing, I plan to go OTA soon and a I was hoping 
these things were firewire related. Anyways, the one time I had it 
segfault was months ago and upgraded SVN trunk several times since then. 
Its possible some update made the frontend handle these better.
