[mythtv-users] Is it safe to restart mysql with mythbackend running?

I am trying to put together a bash script for this.  It seems that i need to
check for the exit code.  I am finding out that mythshutdown is reporting 0
or Idle when in fact mythbackend is recording live tv.  Is this normal
behavior?
