Actually, if anything LVM is essential in that kind of setup, unless
your raid only contains a single partition.  There are exceptions
(hardware raid probably being one).

RAID gives you a bunch of drives that map to a single device.  If you
want multiple partitions on that raid then you need to use LVM.  If you
are using LVM when you setup your raid then moving your partitions over
to the RAID will be a snap.

There aren't a lot of cases where LVM isn't useful - about the only time
I wouldn't use it is for root and for partitions that need to be
accessible from other OS's or from boot disks.

But I don't know all the details of what you're doing, so I don't want
to presume to lecture you on this stuff...
