I use the optical out jack, and have connected it to a (relatively
cheap) 5.1 receiver that has optical in. It passes all sound in
digital format to the optical out for TV, and when playing back Dolby
Digital (e,g in Mythvideo)- passes the DD output. Works brilliantly,
and was a big improvement in sound quality from the line-out into my
plasma (plus this way I have surround sound).

Works easily in both Linux (Fedora Core 6) and OS X modes.
