Oh well, I was fishing for someone to do the work, but when asked that
sweet I'm softened - I'm an old fool ;). Try
yum/smart/apt-get install ieee1394 ieee1394-kmdl-`uname -r`
I hope it works (untested). If it does spread the word, as there seem
to be a loadful of people with FW issues (especially libdc v1/ffmpeg
consumers)
I would still appreciate someone montoring this that actually uses it.

You can always donate such a device over to me ;)
(but I would probably not be able to use it, I don't think any cable
company over here has FW output on their boxes, so I'll just settle
for a thanks provided it does work in the first place ;)
