Hmmm... "Central Office", sounds like a telco guy. "Head End" is the
usual term for CATV operators.

But you are quite correct, you would need an amplifier with a reverse
path capability.

Some amplifiers are fed by power through the coax, and you need to use
"power-passing" passive devices.
