Have you checked with irw that your lircd.conf file works with your
remote correctly? As your normal user, execute "irw" and you should be
presented with a blank line (not a prompt). Press buttons on the remote
and it should tell you what button you pressed. If that isn't working,
then lirc isn't recognizing your keypresses.
