You may in fact be getting 60 hz, as there some sort of bug in the later Nvidia drivers that reports back all screens as being about 50 hz, no matter what they're actually displaying at. I know this shows up in KDE's info, and I think in others'. If its possible, check what the projector itself claims to be receiving.
