You could try an IDE DiskOnModule flash device, slightly slower and
more expensive than standard compact flash, but supports 2,000,000
read write cycles.

I've ordered one for a very space constrained FE I'm building, 4GB so
saves me trying to save every last byte on the root disk. With the
root mounted as tmpfs, should work a treat.
