Because VNC only updates the window when X tells it that something has
changed.  OpenGL bypasses this (i.e. direct rendering) so VNC doesn't
receive update messages.  You can force an update though, in which case
you'll see the new state.

I'm keeping an eye on xf4vnc, which is including Chromium support (for
OpenGL rendering) - unfortunately they're just moving over to the
modular X codebase and the vnc module is currently not working properly.
