Chad,
   Do you load the saa7134 kernel module, the saa7134_dvb module, or 
both?  My A180 only runs if I blacklist the saa7134 module and then load 
saa7134_dvb (I'm on FC4, so for me this is in modprobe.conf).  Try 
"modprobe -r saa1734" then "modprobe saa1734_dvb" and see if it starts 
working (assuming that's how it's done in Gentoo, been a couple of years 
since I used it).
