I thought the problem might have been with Lirc, but even after ripping
those changes out, the problem persisted. I also don't know why I did
not think of this earlier, but I decided to see if the system was truly
locked up, and I SSH'ed in from another host (successfully). I
discovered similar messages to the following in /var/log/messages
Aug 27 04:48:02 myth1 NVRM: Xid: 25, L1 -> L0
Aug 27 04:48:02 myth1 NVRM: Xid: 13, 0000 02003900 00000039 00000328

And I discovered that X was pretty much hung at 99% system utilization.
Killing X and swapping init levels to 3, then back to 5, got me back in.
I can currently run "mplayer /dev/video0" and I can successfully watch
the live feed.
So.. This seems to be Nvidia driver related. I googled it a bit, and
got some cryptic results back (nothing specific to MythTV, but this one
was close:
http://blog.cryos.net/archives/42-System-Freezes-Caused-by-the-Proprietary-Nvidia-Driver.html),
but I was wondering if anyone else had bumped in to this problem? There
was some mention about disabling opengl, changing the screen resolution,
sacrificing a chicken on the fifth day when the moon is in alignment
with Saturn, and using the "nv" driver.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
