Since it sounds like you are going to be using debian,

If you are using a kernel <= 2.6.15, then use ivtv0.4
if you are using kernel 2.6.16, then use ivtv0.6
if you are using kernel 2.6.17, then use ivtv0.7
if you are using kernel 2.6.18+, then use ivtv0.8
There is an ivtv mailing list that is pretty low volume, but you can
post any questions/problems there. You can get to it from the
http://www.ivtvdriver.org wiki.
