I have a receiver (Pioneer) that receives digital coax from my FE Myth box.
I never have audio lags when I fast forward.  I'd think the culprit is
probably in ALSA or the device itself (maybe a side effect of the USB, I
have little to no experience in linux sound).  I've never heard of a
receiver actually lagging behind video.  Usually it's video lags audio
(especially on some HDTVs).
