There seem to be more than one guide for setting up IR blasters with
ATrpms support. In fact even the first 10 hits from google contain 3
such guides ...

The first hit, which was also suggested by Nick, fails--it is the guide I was going off of previously (before trying the more complicated ones).

Installation and setup according to the guides proceeds with no error messages (this is after a fresh install of myth following Jarod's guide). When I attempt to manipulate the set-top box using the following,

irsend --device=/dev/lircd1 SEND_ONCE DCT2000 012

...I get the following errors

irsend: could not connect to socket
irsend: Connection refused

According to the irsend man page, this is because either lircd is running or /dev/lircd does not have write permissions. Neither of these is true:

lircd (pid 2134) is running...
srw-rw-rw- 1 root root 0 Oct 3 19:22 /dev/lircd

dmesg says:
lirc_dev: IR Remote Control driver registered, at major 61
lirc_serial: auto-detected active high receiver
lirc_dev: lirc_register_plugin: sample_rate: 0

...so I think lirc is running properly. Not sure what the problem is. /dev/lirc0 exists. So far as I can tell, everything is good to go, except irsend won't work.

Any ideas? I have tried putting the IR blaster on either serial port, and switched the settings in modprobe.conf from COM1 (/dev/ttys0) to COM2 (/dev/ttsy1), neither helped.

Regards,
Pete
