Oh I have. The list is full of people saying "I can't get XvMC to work" or
"XvMC is choppy". Many people get to the point I'm at and there a few
things that are always suggested (basically the things listed
here<http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/XvMC>)
but it isn't clear to me that this is resulting in much success (i.e. I'm
not seeing lots of people respond with "Hey, that did it!").

Just yesterday I sent out a note to point out that Myth doesn't even seem to
be linking the NVIDIA XvMC libraries during the build (before anybody asks,
my "/etc/X11/XvMCConfig" file does contain "libXvMCNVIDIA_dynamic.so.1") but
nobody responded.

The bottom line is that there is a tremendous amount of confusion swirling
around XvMC. My sense is that there are some fundamental issues (bugs?)
that exist but these are brushed aside assuming that the people having
problems are simply not getting all the configuration options right.

If I get a chance, I will try a different set of video drivers. I have not
done that yet but I have also seen people on this list (in the same boat as
me) say it did not make any difference for them. Who knows though, it might
make a difference to me.

On a somewhat related topic...would using DirectFB make any difference?!?
(especially noting that the load on the X server is so high)
