So, essentially, Xv scaling creates these? I think I've seen what
you're describing, also on GeForce 4MX integrated graphics (ASUS
A7N8X-VM/400 in my case). I wasn't able to ever eliminate them until I
installed a separate graphics card (FX5200) to replace the integrated
video. Based on what I learnt in the meantime it might be power/heat
related errors caused by the chip itself. In my case, any OpenGL use
would also totally lock up the system, so your symptoms are slightly
less severe...
