I was hoping this was true too, but cable and satellite companies
will never provide an unencrypted stream.  They want to sell their
own PVR to you, and they have obligations to the content providers.

I am considering the Nextcom R5000-HD though, but it is a $500
add-on to your satellite box (e.g. Dish Network VIP 211).  It also
doesn't yet have native Linux support.
