Do you miss the seperate index file or is your concern PES file format?

No, since it isn't really needed. We are using only the service id / 
program number beside the multiplex info for tuning. All other info is 
parsed live from the PMT. I don't think it is useful to add such 
information o the database. I think a option to add only channels with 
a specific audio lanuage is for your purpose more appropiate. I will 
think of this when I add the option to add only decryptable crypted 
channels.

For sorting your channels you might find the mythweb channel settings 
page useful. It is faster than the channel editor in mythtv-setup if 
want to edit multiple channels.
