About ivtv control, myth is able to control the devices after these two

It doesn't need to. I'm using an external tuner so once these two things
are set, it should never have to change them. So I have no way of knowing
whether it ever gets proper control.
If so, then try adding to /etc/default/mythtv-backend some verbosity

I set the extra args to "-v important,general,channel". There wasn't
anything for video.
