Thanks Jason.

Sounds like the choices for linux backup are

	partimage
	tar
	rsync

partimage won't work out for LVM that spans partitions.

Sounds like you're saying rsync is the program of choice for incrementals.
A Mac friend told me MacOS comes with a gui backup thing based on rsync too.
I'll look into it.  And thanks for the script reference; it looks cool.

I don't want to drift off topic (although mythTV runs only on linux so I'm
hoping there's justification for discussion about basic linux housekeeping),
but I'm also deciding between

	f-prot
	avast
	clamav

for free virus scanning.  Any suggestions?
