That's true, it is a nuissance, but if it were the other way, people
might find the unpredictability a nuissance, too.

Taking the idea further, though, it would be nice if myth would help
you edit out commercials. I've noticed that what I do when I edit out
commercials is pretty algorithmic: I skip forward a minute at a time
until I find the program I want, then I skip backward by 20 seconds
until I find commercial, then forward by 5 seconds until I hit
program, then back, etc, until I find the point to place a cut. Then
I do the same thing, looking for the end of the commercial break. And
so on, over and over. It's pretty laborious.

I think myth could kind of lead you through this, deciding for you
which way to jump and how far to go to find the edit points, and then
decide which way to delete. All you would have to do is hit one
button to indicate that the frame myth was showing you was program or
another button to indicate commercial. I think this could speed up
commercial cutting considerably.

I've put this idea in the myth wiki wishlist:
http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/Feature_Wishlist_%28Frontend_Addons%29
in the item beginning "Make editing out of commercials easier."
