I have run into the same problem. I have just added a Nova-T card in
addition to my PVR-250 card. Recordings from the PVR-250 are transcoded
properly, while recordings from the Nova-T are transcoded into the "green
squiggly mess" but the sound is ok.
I am running kernel 2.6.16-1.2096_FC4 and mythtv-0.19-126.rhfc4.at

I am going to test various options for the transcoding to see if that helps.
