Well, it's all a matter of opinion. It's not like comparing item A to  
item B, where item B is clearly superior.
Myth has far more features than TiVo, is far more flexible, and far  
more expandable. You can very easily back up your videos or burn them  
to DVD, convert them, etc. etc. TiVo really doesn't do that so  
easily, or will have limitations. The deciding factor is, are you  
willing to spend the time configuring the system, and maintaining it?  
Myth also will cost you more up front, but you don't have to pay a  
monthly fee. Sorta like digital cameras: One big initial investment,  
but you don't really have to pay for much else after that (except  
power, which you'd have to pay for anyway).

In my opinion, Myth is a bit better. For $75-100 for the machine,  
About $99 for a PVR-150 (depending where you shop), $60-100 for a  
decent video card, then $50-$100 for networking, depending on how  
much stuff you need, you can have a PVR that is completely under your  
control, expandable, flexible, and free (as in beer, after parts, and  
as in speech).
