Well.. I wouldn't have believed it but when going from .4 to .6 firmware 
to support 2.6.16 Kernel, I did NOT follow the 2nd trouble-shooting step 
at ivtvdrivers.com.... COLD BOOT (wait 30 secs).

Yup.. registers all clear now, drivers work. :\
