So, to sum up the desirable features of the optimum system, based on  
posts over the last few days, we have:

Low Power Consumption
Low Noise Level
No wasted disk space from recording live TV
No hard drive thrashing
No "audit trail" of watched programs
No monthly recurring costs
Low up front cost
No complicated installation
No modeline calculations required
No unprotected porno programming available


I believe I saw such a system at the Home Depot the other day, it was  
described as a "Cement Block".
