[mythtv-users] which sound card to get?

It seems that it has come time for me to get a new soundcard. My
onboard sound does very well, when it works. However, every now and
then it does a very odd thing. One recording will be fine but then the
very next recording could have amazingly bad sound. It sounds as if the
sample rate as dropped to and extremely low value, and in addition, all
the sounds have a strange high pitched nature to them, as if the bottom
range of frequencies had been simply thrown out or as if the speakers
were holding metal tubes up to their mouths.
It seems that it happens right after having successfully recording
another show, but not always. It is so rare that I have never been able
to find the cause of it. However, now it seems like it's always rearing
it's ugly head when there's a show I had particularly been waiting for.
What are some good PCI sound cards I can try? I see some audigies on
ebay for cheap. I've heard audigy 2's don't work so well, with sound
dropping out or causing crackels and pops. I have a Live value that
does just that. I also have an aureal vortex 3d that is simply, to put
it mildly, crap in linux.
Thanks for any suggestions.
Raphael
