If you rip the DVD in "ISO Image" mode you can play .iso files with xine
by adding/changing the file type handler for .iso files. Xine, when
properly configured and installed, can play them as if they were the
real DVD, with menus and digital sound and all that.
I use the following command to play .iso DVD files with xine:
/usr/bin/xine -pfhq -V xv --no-splash dvd://%s
You set it up in Setup -> Media Settings -> Video Settings -> File Types
