I compiled myself some debian packages from

  http://svn.mythtv.org/svn/branches/release-0-19-fixes/mythtv

Revision 9277 (7 March) and saw the same symptoms :-(

Here are some logs from that version

This does appear to have solved the mis-communication about file names
- there is only one .mpg file name mentioned in those logs, but LiveTV
still doesn't work :-( This appears as about 40s of black screen then
it returns to the menu.
