Well, this seems like more of a question about the emulator, not MythTV.

I ran PCSX and ePSXe on a Pentium III 500 MHz, 128 MB of RAM with an  
nVidia Riva TNT2 (32 MB RAM), and I could run the battle scenes of  
"Final Fantasy VIII," all effects on, at 1024x768, running at a  
minimum of 30 FPS, exception being the battle transitions (the TNT2  
couldn't do hardware motion-blur).

Running that same setting in software yielded an unplayable 1 FPS.  
Basically, what I'm trying to say, is that we don't know enough about  
your hardware. A lot of this depends on your video card, and your  
configuration. There's a lot of tweaking you could do, but it all  
depends on your hardware.
