Well, so long as we're sharing mysql stories, I'll weigh in
with: "mysql on my (sid) mythbox corrupts mythconverg about 10%
of the time when the system is power toggled (generally thanks
to a power bump or ivtv wedging the kernel)." I run the optimize
script every night but maybe I should up it to every hour.
I don't mind hacks too much if they work! :-)

I have never seen such a problem with postgresql but, admittedly,
I don't power cycle my servers very often.
