It won't create any problems--it's just a file extension.  After all, 
this isn't Windows...

If you want to get it fixed, the right solution is to fix the file 
utility--not to make mythrename.pl "know better" than to trust file.  
Source code is available from ftp://ftp.astron.com/pub/file and you can 
send patches to Christos as described in the README.
