[mythtv-users] problem getting X to display on TV using EDID

Actually, your TV's EDID information is not *required* to generate a
modeline, it is simply used to warn you when the modeline is out of the
range of your TV (which, if you are using a common resolution, is probably
not the case). However, a modeline may not *work*, as in the TV doesn't
accept the vsync, hsync or other whatnot. This is where tweaking is normally
required.
If I understand you correctly, when you try any modelines, your *TV* pops a
message up saying "Not supported mode", right? If that's the case, then you
would not get any warnings or errors in your Xorg log because there __were__
none. The modeline was in the range of your TV's capabilities (As reported
by the EDID, but who trusts that info anyway), and there were no problems
outputting the specified modeline. So as far as your PC is concerned,
everything is working perfectly. Your problem lies with you TV trying to
process the signal (if that's the right word) and display it, it can't. You
need to tweak your modeline until it can, however I don't know how to do
that...
I think XVidtune will only work once you've got a display, so that's no
good. Google doesn't get a single hit with your model number and "modeline",
so my best advice is just to try every modeline you come across. Below are
two I found of Gentoo Wiki's HDTV entry.
ModeLine "My720p" 73.825 1280 1320 1368 1640 720 722 724 751 +hsync +vsync
ModeLine "My720p2" 73.825 1280 1320 1368 1640 720 722 724 751 +hsync +vsync
Sorry if I made all that a bit confusing, I find it hard to get what's in my
head on the screen.

Subject: [mythtv-users] problem getting X to display on TV using EDID
Hello,
I spent all night trying to figure out why I can't get X window to
display on my TV.
In a previous message to this list I read that one can use EDID
information that is read from the TV set to create a matching
Modeline.
I tried videogen, the xtiming.pl script and similar tools to generate
Modelines. Usually, the TV displays "Not supported mode", but the
Xorg log doesn't shows any [EE] or [WW] messages.
Some background: I've bought a Samsung LCD TV (LE32R5) which has a
resolution of 1360x768 at 60Hz according to the manual, and it has HDMI
input. My Mythbox is an Asus Pundit R350 with a ATI 9100 IGP with DVI
output. I connected both with a DVI-HDMI cable and am able to see the
console, unfortunately with some horrible overscan, but anyway. The
machine runs using Debian Sarge and Xorg 6.9.
The EDID output from the Xorg.0.log is (in part)
(II) RADEON(0): EDID data from the display on port 2-----------------------

How can I make a Modeline of this information?
