Heh, I was just investigating this same thing.

I have all of my recordings set to auto-transcode but I am not seeing
it happen.  I can manually kick off the transcode and it runs fine
just as expected.  I'm going over any wiki/mailing list entries I can
find, but so far it seems I have it set up right.
