Hi,
My plextor arrived and while I intend to set it up on the laptop (in the
shop), I thought I'd give it a go on the desktop / server first. I'm on
gentoo and have recently upgraded to modular xorg. I've never been
particular successful at getting this machine's nvidia drivers to work
(A7N8X-E Deluxe MB w/ nforce2 SPP Ultra 400), so I've stuck with the
xorg-x11 drivers (as I said, it's a server, so I've not been too bothered).
Anyhow, I have used the plextor guide
(http://gentoo-wiki.com/HARDWARE_go7007) and mythtv setup guide
(http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Setup_MythTV) as my cues in this process.
Everything seems to go OK [modprobe on plextor module(s) goes fine,
zap2it OK, mysql OK, etc.] until I realize that I have no /dev/video* or
/dev/v4l. I attempted to set this up and failed to reap any benefit:
mknod /dev/video0 c 81 0
ln -s /dev/video0 /dev/video
as
mythtv couldn't open /dev/video0 to probe its inputs
As I write this I noticed:
$ tail -f /var/log/messages

My problems may be greater than this simple issue, but I'm hoping not.
:-D Any recommendations at this point?
