I honestly can't say if overscan works - I've been using an HDTV that has
a VGA input for the last six months or so. Overscan isn't an option when
you're using a VGA monitor, only a TV.
However, when I was using a regular TV, overscan was working using the
nvidia-settings program. It also works fine for me when loading it
(nvidia-settings -l) from .xsession, but I use ratpoison as my window
manager.
